Your First 90 Days with an OBM

March 29, 20253 min read

Bringing an Online Business Manager (OBM) into your coaching business is a game-changer. It’s the move that takes you from doing ALL the things to stepping fully into your CEO role - focusing on big-picture strategy while your OBM handles the day-to-day.

Your OBM isn’t just an extra set of hands. They’re your success partner, working alongside you and your team to turn your vision into reality.

Here’s what they’ll help you with from day one:

Quarterly planning – No more flying by the seat of your pants! Your OBM ensures you and your team always have clear goals and a roadmap to get there.

Team management – Making sure the right people are doing the right things, at the right time.

Streamlining operations – Documenting processes and building systems to make everything run smoothly and efficiently.

Driving progress – Keeping projects moving forward, so things actually get done instead of lingering on your to-do list.

Clearing YOUR plate – So you can focus on high-level strategy, scaling your business, and actually enjoying the freedom you built your business for.

So what can you expect in the first 90 days?

Here’s how to set yourself (and your OBM) up for success from day one:

1. Cast the vision 🎯

As the CEO, your job is to define where your business is headed. Your OBM will create the plan to get you there, but you need to be clear on your big-picture goals.

2. Give them time to learn your business 🕰️

Your OBM doesn’t need to be trained in how to manage a business - but they do need to learn your business. Give them space to onboard properly and understand how things run before expecting them to work at full speed.

3. Set realistic priorities (and stick to them)

Hiring an OBM won’t magically fix everything in 90 days. Agree on your top three priorities and let them work through them at a sustainable pace. (It may feel slower than you’d like at first - but trust the process!)

You can have everything you want, just not all at once!

4. Be clear on expectations 📢

What does success look and feel like for you? Communicate that upfront so your OBM knows exactly what you need. The clearer you are, the better they can deliver.

5. Expect (lots of) communication at first 💬

In the early days, there will be extra communication while you get used to each other’s styles. This is normal! The more you talk, the faster you’ll build trust and find your rhythm.

6. Be ready to let go 🤲

Your OBM is a leader, not a follower. Their job is to take things off your plate and run with them. That means trusting them to take the lead - so you don’t have to.

7. Embrace different approaches 🔄

Your OBM won’t think or work exactly like you do - and that’s a good thing. Their fresh perspective and expertise will help your business scale in ways you never imagined.

8. Expect some bumps in the road 🚧

It won’t all be smooth sailing in week one. There will be adjustments as you learn how to work together. When things feel messy, lean into communication and collaboration—don’t panic!

💡 When you approach your first 90 days with clarity, patience, and trust, the possibilities for your business are endless.
