Top Tips for Creating Your Next Lead Magnet

February 14, 20222 min read

Are you ready to start building your email list but are feeling a little stumped when it comes to creating your lead magnet?

You are definitely not alone. It can feel overwhelming trying to think of the perfect freebie that your audience will love.

Here are my top tips for designing a lead magnet that will wow potential customers and leave them wanting more…

1. Get clear on your ideal client

If you haven’t already, I suggest that you create a customer avatar. This is a profile of your perfect customer. When you really understand who your ideal customer is you’ll be much more effective in crafting a message that speaks directly to them.

If you need more advice on creating a customer avatar, then read this blog.

Once you are clear on who your ideal client you can start to  identify their biggest struggles. How does your product or service provide a solution to their problem?

If you can create a lead magnet that solves part of this problem for them, they will see it as valuable enough to swap for their email address.

2. Don’t give away too much!

It can be very tempting to give your clients heaps of valuable content as your freebie… and where you certainly want to provide value, you also must leave them wanting more.

You should aim to solve 20% of their issue or bring them 20% closer to the solution of their problem. If you can do this effectively, they will want to come to you for remaining 80%!

3. Select a click-worthy title

Your title should explain what your lead magnet contains or does in plain language so that your lead knows what to expect when they access it.

Numbered lists convert well, for example: 5 steps to…, 31 days to…, 7 tips for…

Also consider using words that suggest usefulness, for example: How to…, A guide for…, Your 3 step plan for…

4. Have a clear Call to Action

The lead magnet is only the first step of the customer journey so always make it clear what you would like somoene to do next.

You may want to invite them to:

  • Join your Facebook group

  • Book a discovery call

  • Join a waitlist for your upcoming course / membership

5. Promote it!

Now that you have crafted the perfect freebie for your audience how will they know it exists?

You must make sure to promote your lead magnet with the same frequency that you would any of your other products or services.

Use your blog, social channels, Facebook groups, guest appearances on groups / podcasts, etc. to let everyone know where they can find it.
