There are so many different freebies that you can use to attract your ideal customer, but one that I have found converts remarkably well is using a webinar as a lead magnet.
A webinar is a video presentation, masterclass or workshop which is hosted online. Webinars can be live, allowing interaction between the presenter and participants. Or they can be pre-recorded and used as an evergreen lead magnet.
Hosting a webinar is much easier than organising an event in one location where everyone attends in person. This is because you don’t need to have a physical venue to host a large number of attendees. It also opens your audience to a global one.
Webinars are usually business-related and allow you to share your knowledge and expertise with potential customers. They are perfect if you are at the authority-building stage of your business.
In my experience webinars work well for course creators as they allow potential customers to experience whether they relate to your teaching style and they give the attendees a true flavour of what you are like to work with.
The beauty of hosting a webinar rather than a live event is that you can invite people from all around the globe. So they work well if your audience is scattered and an in-person event would be logistically difficult to arrange.
When hosting a webinar it is impossible to be too prepared! Practice, practice, practice what you will say. Ensure that your software works properly and that it can accommodate all the participants who have signed up. Check the sound, camera and screen sharing before you start. There is nothing worse than technology failing you when it’s something that you could have easily prevented!
In my experience you will get more people sign up for your webinar than are actually able to attend. It is near impossible to find a time suitable for everyone in your audience. But as long as it’s recorded you can send them the replay and if they can’t participate live, they can watch the recording later.
If you are going to make an offer at the end of the webinar let your audience know at the beginning that you will be letting them know how they can work with you further. Participants will not mind as long as you are delivering real valuable content in the webinar but most people don’t like a sales pitch to be sprung on them at the end without any prior warning.
If you would rather people didn’t interrupt you during your presentation let them know that they will have the opportunity to ask any questions at the end. Explain how they should do that – i.e. should they unmute themselves or use the comments.
And finally, enjoy the experience! This is a real opportunity for you to build your authority in your area and share your expertise with potential customers. They will feel your energy so if you are enthused about what you are talking about it will shine through!
Whether you are planning a webinar as a lead magnet or something different, be sure that you don’t make these common mistakes!
