Have you ever wondered what’s the difference between a squeeze page and a landing page?
Well, a squeeze page is a landing page that is specifically designed to collect email addresses from potential customers (aka leads). Squeeze pages are designed to use incentives to “squeeze” a visitor into providing their email.
Despite all the other channels available to companies, email is still one of the most effective options for online marketing. Using a squeeze page to collect email addresses means that you have a warm audience to market to at any stage.
There are a couple of reasons why squeeze pages work so well:
1. Offering a potential customer an incentive in return for their email address is the most effective way to encourage them to subscribe to your email list. Why? Because it is an ethical transaction. You are trading something of value (your lead magnet) for their email address.
2. Squeeze pages have only one function – to encourage a visitor to sign up. This means there should never be anything on your squeeze page that allows your customer to go elsewhere. With a squeeze page, your customers either opt-in or they go elsewhere.
There are five elements that you should include in your squeeze page.
Your headline should match what was clicked to bring the person to your squeeze page. It should also reflect what benefit they are going to get from your freebie. Make it something compelling that will cause FOMO if they don’t click to sign up!
We are all busy! People are unlikely have the time or desire to read reams of text so keep your copy short and to the point. A couple of lines or bullet points on what they can expect from your lead magnet should suffice.
Only request the information that you need as visitors will be put off if you ask for too many details. First name and email address is usually enough.
Choose an image that compliments your copy and fits with your brand. A photo of you if you provide a service; or of your product will entice visitors to want to know more.
The sign-up button should be big, bright and preferably above where a visitor would have to scroll to see it. Have a clear call to action (CTA) like “Download Now” or “Send me my freebie.”
The first question that I ask people who tell me that they are struggling to get leads to subscribe to their list is “How often do you promote it?” All too often the answer is never or rarely!
You can’t just design a squeeze page and then sit back and wait for your ideal customers to sign up. People don’t even know that your lead magnet exists until you tell them! That’s why you need to get out there and promote it… regularly!
If you have created a valuable lead magnet, then why deprive people of the value that they could get out of accessing it?
You should promote your freebie as much as you can and here are a few ideas of places where you can share it:
Include a link in your social media bio
Write relevant posts with a CTA for people to sign up
Include a link in your blog
Add a pop up or banner to your website
Share it on your podcast or in your video content
Share in Facebook groups.
