Grow Your Email List Using Social Media

May 16, 20224 min read

If you’ve been following my blog for a while you’ll know that I am a huge believer in growing an email list! But are you currently struggling to actually get people to subscribe to your list?

What if I told you it’s not really that difficult to grow your email list? … Yeah, you heard me right!

You just need the right tools and some smart strategies in place! In this blog, I want to share 5 ways that you can leverage social media to boost the size of your email list when you have a lead magnet. If you still need to create a lead magnet (aka a freebie) then check out this blog.

If you are an online business, the chances are that you already have an audience on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or elsewhere. Use the following tips to get the most out of those platforms:

1. Optimise your profile by adding a Call to Action (CTA)

This one is easy, but can be soooo effective! If you’re not including a CTA in your social media profiles, then you’re missing out on the opportunity to get new subscribers or convert your existing social media followers into subscribers. Your social media profile should explain who you help, what you do, and include a CTA.

Your CTA can link directly to your lead magnet sign up page, or if you have a challenge or webinar coming up, send visitors to the registration page.

This gives new followers the chance to get something valuable from you for free, and allows you to convert new followers into subscribers. People are often most inquisitive about your brand the moment they start to follow you, so make the most of this opportunity by offering them other ways to connect.

2. Social Media Posts

This is also a bit of a no-brainer, but is something that we don’t necessarily take the time to schedule. I recommend that AT LEAST one of your social media posts each week should be promoting your freebie. If you have more than one freebie, schedule one post a week on each for your freebies!

Talk about the benefits that someone is going to get once they subscribe and talk about them regularly. You may feel as though you are repeating yourself but remember that only a small proportion of your followers actually see your posts. As long as you are changing your message slightly, using different graphics and providing valuable content your audience will continue to love what you are sharing.

3. Instagram Stories

Instagram have made it so easy for us now that we can all include links in our stories! As with your grid posts, make sure that you are getting on stories at least once per week and promoting your freebie!

If you are happy in front of the camera, get on and talk about it. Tell people what they will receive, the benefits for them when they download your guide / register for your webinar / join your waitlist. And then be sure to drop the all-important link to your landing page and explain that when they click it, it will take them directly to the sign up page.

If you are not so happy to be in front of the camera, just do your stories as a text post but again, be sure to include the link to the sign-up page.

4. Networking in Facebook Groups

I’m sure that you are in at least one Facebook group where your ideal clients hang out… am I right?

Use the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge by answering relevant questions when someone is struggling with something in your area of expertise. If they need assistance with something that your lead magnet can help with, direct them towards it.

Always check the group rules to ensure that you are allowed to promote your lead magnets before sharing any posts about them. Some groups also have #FreebieFriday type posts, where you are allowed to share your links within the threads so you might need to wait for that opportunity to promote your lead magnet.

5. Paid Advertising

There is only so far that organic reach is going to take you. If you feel as though this is the case and you need to reach different audiences then you may want to consider paid advertising on your chosen social media channels.

I would suggest that if you have never used Facebook ads before that you seek some professional support. The support and the amount you choose to spend on your chosen platform will cost money and it is up to you to decide on what your budget is. But if you have a plan for how you will recoup your investment (e.g. setting up an email sequence where you eventually pitch your product), then it is possible to make a return on your investment.

I hope that this has given you some good ideas that you can take away and implement straight away. If you would like to delve deeper into growing your email list – watch my free Magnetic List Building masterclass today!
